Every 3 Seconds, A Person is Diagnosed With Dementia

Dementia is a condition in which memory, thinking, behaviour, and the ability to carry out everyday activities gradually decline. Most cases of dementia are due to Alzheimer’s disease. Although dementia is not a normal part of ageing, it mostly affects the elderly. Almost all people with dementia feel isolated, and this isolation accelerates the disease’s progression. Studies show that lonely people are at a higher risk of Alzheimer’s than people who aren’t lonely.

VR.MIGHTY is a social VR world, specifically designed for seniors, in order to prevent dementia (Alzheimer’s in particular). It enables them to interact with their peers and support each other inside a game-like social world. By giving them a chance to be heard, brings a sense of meaningfulness to their lives, strengthens their identity, and delays dementia subsequently.

This virtual world has a beautiful nature and cozy gathering points. We have considered the elements of a dementia-friendly environment such as irregular layouts, vibrant spaces, using blue/red/green colors ,etc. in designing this world. While a virtual tour guide, guides the users to explore this virtual world and attend their desired sessions, users can also move in the world, find their counterparts, and communicate with them.

Seniors can explore the dementia-friendly environment of this island, find like-minded people anytime and anywhere, and enjoy a walk in nature without ever having to leave their homes.
